World Cerebral Palsy Day

In a world where there is so much social media usage, it’s still hard to imagine we have complex chronic disabilities that are so underfunded and under researched. Cerebral Palsy is one of these complex diagnoses. CP affects motor and developmental skills and can vary from person to person.

CP is a complex disability in which:

  • 1 in 4 children with cerebral palsy cannot talk.
  • 1 in 4 cannot walk.
  • 1 in 2 have an intellectual disability.
  • 1 in 4 have epilepsy.

Maine Medical Partners in Portland provides a Cerebral Palsy Clinic that develops specialized treatment plans based on the unique needs of each patient.  https://www.mainehealth.org/Maine-Medical-Center/Services/Neuro/Cerebral-Palsy

There are many ways you can support Cerebral Palsy awareness and funding:

  1. Contact: Reach out to your local legislator or lawmaker and be an advocate to ensure all children have access to educational opportunities.
  2. Wear GREEN in October: Green is the color of cerebral palsy awareness. Green was chosen to reflect growth, vibrant lives and hope for advancements in treatments and acceptance of Cerebral Palsy.
  3. Support and Share Awareness: Support the Cerebral Palsy Community and spread the message of equality for all people on your social media platforms. Use the hashtags #WorldCerebralPalsyDay, #worldcpday and #cerebralpalsy to help spread awareness.
